THE PROPELLER CENTRE FOR THE VISUAL ARTS is pleased to present Patricia Crowley’s solo exhibition, Over the Water and through the Woods in the NORTH GALLERY from February 19 to March 2, 2014. A reception with the artist will be held on Thursday, February 20, from 6.30 to 9.30 pm.

Patricia Crowley’s recent oil paintings capture the quality of natural light and the scenery of the Bruce Trail and of Six Mile Lake, near Georgian Bay.

In her work she is inspired by her sense of wonder when engaged with nature. Working from memories and sensations, her paintings capture what it feels like to be immersed in the natural world, through the shimmering qualities of light and unusual perspectives.

Her vivid and often surprising colour combinations, bold and gestural brush strokes are charged with a passionate energy.  The angles and choice of compositions create a personal narrative; we are invited to travel with her, discovering the unique perception of not only the landscape but also the artist herself.

Patricia Crowley was born in Montréal, Québec, and lives in Toronto, Ontario. She has studied at the Ontario College of Art, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Toronto School of Art and Project Art Studio in Toronto.  She has participated in group shows with the Project Art Studio since 2009.  Recently, she has had solo shows in Toronto at the Art Square Gallery (2011), the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition (2012) and The Artist Project. (2013).

THE PROPELLER CENTRE FOR THE VISUAL ARTS is a member-run gallery located at 984 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON M6J 1H1. The Centre is located east of Ossington Avenue in the heart of Toronto’s Queen West Gallery District.

For Immediate Release

ART SQUARE GALLERY is pleased to present Patricia Crowley’s first solo exhibition, Scenes of Italy, from May 31 to June, 19, 2011. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, June 1, from 6 – 9pm.

Crowley’s recent oil paintings capture the quality of natural light and the scenery of Rome, Orte (North of Rome), Campania and Southern Tuscany.

In her work she explores a variety of surfaces and textures—from thin, layered transparencies in the sky to thick patches of paint in the foreground—and she uses finely tuned colour to establish tone and mood.  Loose paint strokes give a sense of flow and kinetic energy, which is balanced with quieter, evenly painted shapes.

Owner of Art Square Gallery, Leyla Kizilirmak, is thrilled to be hosting the first show of this emerging artist. She describes Crowley’s paintings as “showing the folded quality of the Italian landscape. Her images are luminous and vibrant.”

Crowley’s previous works include urban landscapes and Canadian scenery, transformed dramatically through colour.

Patricia Crowley was born in Montréal, Québec, and currently lives and works in Toronto, Ontario. She attended the Ontario College of Art and the Anne Tanenbaum School at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and is currently working with Ewa Stryjnik at the Project Art studio. She has previously participated in group shows with students from the Anne Tanenbaum Art School of the Art Gallery of Ontario and with the Project Art Studio in 2009 and 2010.

ART SQUARE GALLERY is located at 334 Dundas Street West, Toronto across from the Art Gallery of Ontario.
